The TVS Institute for Quality and Leadership, the Corporate University of TVS Motor, hosted its first Operations Research (OR) Conference on January 9, 2023. The conference served as a platform for sharing ideas and presenting case studies, bringing in delegates from across industries and academia, such as from Intel, TCS, Simwell, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), TVS Motor, IIM Indore, and NITIE- Mumbai.
Mr. Shin Taguchi, Dr.Abhijit Deshmukh, D & CEO Mr. K.N Radhakrishnan, Director IQL Dr.Kovaichelvan, Leader of CoP Mr. K. Ravi inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp.
After the inauguration, Dr. V. Kovaichelvan, Director, IQL, shared the concept of CoP and its benefits. Mr.K Ravi – Leader of OR CoP shared the journey of CoP and the business impact from various projects.
The conference began with Professor Emeritus Abhijith Deshmukh’s keynote address. Professor Abhijith, Ph.D. from Purdue University, was the James J. Solberg Head and Tompkins Chair of Systems in the School of Industrial Engineering at Purdue University. He spoke about the Promise of operations research in enabling decisions and shared the global case studies in the areas of Operations Research. He introduced the decision framework based on decision time, model type, data type, and decision horizon. He introduced the concept of Augmented Intelligence vs Artificial Intelligence as a new definition for AI. The Business Leadership team and Senior Management were also present at the conference and shared valuable inputs.
The OR journey at IQL started in 2016 with an executive education program jointly from NITIE and Purdue University, with 80 plus senior managers being certified with Yellow and Green Belt and 60 plus impactful projects from the group. The launch of CoP helped in building a strong network of experts to sustain the momentum and pursue the OR journey further. This conference, planned to be conducted annually, will further enhance networking across industry and academia.
